Toilet Block Transformation
Esher High School | Surrey
CID Study Space were asked to undertake a refurbishment of an existing toilet block. Unfortunately a recent TikTok craze had resulted in the toilets being vandalized. Large portions of the walls had been badly damaged as seen in the photos. The vanity unit had also been destroyed as had the cubicles. It was important that the block was safe, hygienic and useable for the start of term. We also needed to make the necessary adjustments to prevent the toilets being vandalized again.
Open and Visible Design
One of the first steps taken was to widen the entrance to the toilets and completely remove the door. This open design not only makes the space more inviting but also allows staff to have a clear line of sight into the facilities. Increased visibility acts as a deterrent to misbehavior and promotes a sense of accountability among the students. After checking the structure of the wall we found it was not weight bearing and the adjustments to the opening were made without a lintel.
